Background

It was decided at the June meeting of the LSCMMG that melatonin for the management of insomnia in children and adults with neurodevelopmental disorders would be RAG rated Amber 0.
Continued prescribing of melatonin should only occur in patients whose initial response to and progress on this medication is considered satisfactory.
Clinicians prescribing melatonin should refer to the LSCMMG prescribing information sheet on melatonin for further information, including how and when to introduce treatment holidays.
